Helsinki Films, in co-production with El Gatoverde Productions finished shooting the short film Familias this Sunday. The artistic and technical team, directed by Sara Bamba and Ivan Martin Ruedas have made the clapper board be heard to narrate how childhood goes through and experiences different situations of violence within families and their immediate surroundings.
ORIGINAL SCRIPT BY IVAN MARTIN RUEDAS AND SARA BAMBA
Ivan Martin Ruedas’ original idea ended up becoming a script that was very well received by the team of Helsinki Films. Soon after, they started looking for ways of taking the short film to cinemas, and that’s how the project arrived to Mariano Baratech’s hands at the beginning of summer. He didn’t hesitate in collaborating with the project either, and got his production company El Gatoverde involved.
Violence isn’t a new topic for Sara and Ivan. These two screenwriters and directors have already addressed it in short films such as Caleidoscopio or La violencia normal. For one of which they won the Price “breaking borders” of the Notodofilmfest and the other one was produced to support that category.
MAIN THEME IN FAMILIAS: THE DENOUNCE OF VIOLENCE DURING CHILDHOOD
In the short film whose shooting has just finished, the figure of the kid is presented on the one hand as an active main character and on the other hand patient, of the violence present in the daily life of many families.
In Sara’s words, these are the elements on which this new project is based:
“We have addressed violence in other projects because we are interested in investigating how violence operates and what are its connections with our current society. That’s why in this short film we denounce the violence to which some kids are exposed from different perspectives”
THREE DAYS OF INTENSE SHOOTING AT THE OUTSKIRTS OF MADRID; COPRODUCED BY HELSINKI FILMS AND EL GATOVERDE PRODUCTIONS.
With the first subvention granted by the Community of Madrid, it has been possible to shoot the short film in three days, thanks to the effort and professionalism of more than 60 people if we sum up the technical and artistic team and the extras. Jorge Cabrera (who’s last Project was Diecisite, by Daniel Sanchez Arevalo) and Laura Galán Montijano (main character of Cerdita), have played the main adult characters and Pablo Miragaya, Julieta D’Eboli Mercader and Alberto Roldán have played the characters of the kids.
For the editing and postproduction work that is still left to do, they will begin a crowdfunding campaign in the known platform Verkami, in order to cover the costs that are left for the screening of the short film at La Semana del Corto de la Comunidad de Madrid.
